KEYS

To make a healthy home

Let's get started!

"The Enclosure Generation".

VELUX campaign about the fact that we spend 90% of our lives indoors. In other words, we have gone from being part of nature to being outside nature. And this gives us a reason to explain how the lack of natural light and fresh air makes us sick.

The objective was to give importance to the indoor environment, to sensitize and activate people in general (not only professionals) on the subject, making them feel the mental and physical importance of healthy spaces.

DO SOMETHING TODAY THAT YOUR FUTURE SELF WILL BE THANKFUL FOR

Eduardo Raúl Terán

Our actions and decisions today will determine our future.

How do I know if my home is healthy?

HEALTHY HOME - HEALTHY LIFE

The role that buildings can play in human health and well-being has never been more important. A sick building can generate problems such as:

  • HORMONAL BALANCE / INSOMNIA / FATIGUE
  • ALLERGIES / ASTHMA / RESPIRATORY DISEASES
  • DIABETES / OBESITY / DEPRESSION / HEART ATTACK / HYPERTENSION
  • DISTRACTION / IRRITATION / FATIGUE / LACK OF ENERGY
  • MUSCLE PAIN / NERVES / STRESS …

We can create environments that nourish our bodies, move us, keep us connected, inspire our best work and facilitate a good night's sleep.

GROUPS AT RISK

THE YOUNGEST AND OLDEST MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD, ALONG WITH THE SICK, ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE.

Is the air you breathe clean? Are you sleeping well? Are there any disturbing noises? Do you have natural lighting? electronic devices near you?

You feel tired, fatigue, lack of energy or insomnia, it is very likely that your home is not optimized to take care of you and this is harming you. Have you ever stopped to think about how the different elements, design or materials of your home interfere with your health?

TODAY WE WANT HOMES THAT CARE FOR AND RESPECT OUR HEALTH. IN OUR HOME WE ARE NOT PERFECT, WE ARE HAPPY AND HEALTHY.

Indoor environment

MOLD AND OTHER ENEMIES

WE SPEND 90% OF OUR TIME INDOORS, SO THE SPACES WHERE WE LIVE GREATLY IMPACT OUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.

Polluted air is the number one cause of premature death, contributing to 1 in 8 deaths worldwide.

KEY 1

PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO WATER LEAKS, CONDENSATION... AND ABOVE ALL PERFORM PERIODIC TESTS TO CHECK THE QUALITY OF YOUR INDOOR ENVIRONMENT.

  • SMOKING BAN
  • VOC REDUCTION
  • AIR LEAKS
  • TOXICS OR VOCS
  • AMOUNT OF CO2 / RADON / OZONE / FORMALADEHYDE…
  • MICROBIAL AND MOLD CONTROL
  • HUMIDITY CONTROL
  • CLEANING PRODUCTS

2

Ventilation

CLEAN AIR IS A RIGHT

CROSS VENTILATION IS VERY EFFECTIVE, BUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT, THERE ARE OTHER ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS THAT CAN HELP YOU.

  • AIR QUALITY MONITORING
  • AIR FILTERING
  • EFFICIENT WINDOWS
  • AIR PURIFIERS
  • COMBUSTION MINIMIZATION

Indoor air is 5 times more polluted than outdoor air, and it is in children's rooms where the problem is most acute.

KEY 2

  • VENT AT LEAST 1 TIME/H – If we get serious, it should be many more times, but once an hour is fine to start with.
  • CROSS VENTILATION – Open windows and doors that are on opposite facades, with this you will get a divine air flow that will clean your house instantly.

3

Natural materials

NO TO TOXICS

Building materials have a very long use phase, which makes their chemical composition and potential impact on indoor air quality significant.

  • INTERIOR FINISHES (paints)
  • CLOSINGS
  • STRUCTURES
  • FURNITURE
  • FABRICS
  • UTENSILS

KEY 3

Look at the composition of the materials in your home, just as you do with food. The more natural the better.

4

Radiation

AVOID WAVES

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ALL THE DEVICES WITH WAVES THAT SURROUND US, THERE IS A LOT OF EQUIPMENT AT HOME:

  • ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS
  • MOBILE
  • WIFI
  • MICROWAVE
  • ENERGY-SAVING LAMPS
  • TELEVISION OR COMPUTER SCREENS
  • RADIATORS OR ELECTRIC BLANKETS …

KEY 4

TRY TO HAVE AS FEW APPLIANCES ON AS POSSIBLE, DON'T STAND IN FRONT OF THE MICROWAVE, DISCONNECT THE WIFI IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE IT...

5

Water

WATER IS LIFE

The IOM recommends approximately 2.7 liters for women and 3.7 liters for men per day.

Many people do not hydrate adequately, a contributing factor to this is the actual or perceived quality of drinking water.

  • Water treatment.
  • Drinking water sources.

KEY 5

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A HIGH AVAILABILITY OF QUALITY WATER AT A DISTANCE OF NO MORE THAN 10 METERS AT ANY POINT IN THE HOUSE.

6

Lighting

CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS

Studies have shown that exposure to light has an impact on mood and reduces symptoms of depression in people.

Humans and animals have an internal clock that synchronizes physiological functions in an approximately 24-hour cycle called the circadian rhythm.

  • Individualized controls.
  • Visual acuity.
  • Lighting design taking into account circadian rhythms.
  • Glare control.
  • Access to natural lighting.
  • Lighting quality.

KEY 6

THERE IS A TYPE OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHT SUITABLE FOR EVERY TIME OF THE DAY AND EVERY ACTIVITY. MAKE USE OF NATURAL LIGHT WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

7

Neuroarchitecture

PSYCHOLOGY OF HABITAT

The built environment serves as a powerful tool to help mitigate potential mental health problems through use policies and through design.

Can you imagine if spaces had the magic to stimulate our neurons, to make us happier, less stressed or smarter?

  • SHAPES – SYMBOLS
  • PROPORTIONS
  • COLORS
  • DISTRIBUTION
  • ENERGIES AND SENSATIONS
  • MEMORIALS

KEY 7

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERYTHING IS IN HARMONY, THAT YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, THAT THE SPACE MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD VIBRATIONS: ORDER, HIGH CEILINGS, PLANTS, LIGHT, MUSIC, SMELL...

8

Biophilia

NATURE IS GOD'S ART

The human need to live connected to nature is due to the fact that this connection contributes to our well-being and better quality of life, bringing us more positivism, energy and happiness.

We operate with natural light, we have evolved how species with this type of light. Sunlight controls our biorhythms.

  • PLANTS
  • ANIMALS
  • WATER
  • FIRE
  • IMAGES OF NATURE
  • NATURAL MATERIALS AND COLORS
  • BIOMIMETHICS
  • NATURALISTIC FORMS

KEY 8

APPLY ANY OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS IN A SMALL CORNER OF YOUR HOME.

9

Thermal comfort

ENERGY WEALTH

THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO STILL LIVE IN ENERGY POVERTY, ESPECIALLY NOW WITH THE RISE IN ENERGY BILLS.

  • Thermal zones
  • Individual controls
  • Radiators
  • Monitoring
  • Humidity control.

KEY 9

WE ADVISE YOU TO GO LITTLE BY LITTLE, FIRST AND FOREMOST ZONING THE HOUSE AND ONLY COOLING/HEATING THE SPACES YOU ARE USING.

10

Acoustics

SILENCE, THE LANGUAGE OF THE SOUL

exposure to noise sources, such as traffic and transportation, is damaging in several ways

  • Acoustic barriers.
  • Reverberation time
  • Sound absorption.
  • acoustic windows
  • Isolation

KEY 10

MAKE A SMART INVESTMENT BY INSULATING YOUR HOME AND CHANGING WINDOWS SO THAT NO OUTSIDE SOUND CAN DISTURB YOUR MOMENT OF DISCONNECTION.

LIVE YOUR HOME CONSCIOUSLY WITH HEALTHY HABITS: AIR, WATER, FOOD, LIGHTING, MOVEMENT, THERMAL COMFORT, SOUND, MATERIALS, MIND AND COMMUNITY. KNOWING THAT EVERYTHING HAS A DIRECT RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

TAKE CARE THROUGH YOUR HOME

Do things little by little, step by step, and you will have a BIO home that promotes your physical and emotional well-being and that of your loved ones.
